Consumer Spending

A Glance

Consumers spend $22 billion on mobile games in the first quarter of 2022, according to recent Data.ai report. This figure has seen a significant increase over 2 years. The pre-pandemic levels of gaming spending grew 42% in Q1 2020.

Gaming represents the majority of consumer spending on mobile with 73% of consumers spending on Google Play and 60% on iOS. The report also says that average weekly downloads in games have increased 45% from Q1 2019 to Q1 2022. The analysts have forecasted that the total number of downloads will reach 14 billion in the first quarter of 2022. The Data Science Course is necessary to acquire the skills/know-how to navigate data collection and eventually analysis. Analysts have come to these conclusions regarding gaming and the time consumers spend on games using sophisticated data gathering/scraping, data organizing, clean-up, and analysis to draw insights and arrive at conclusions with a reasonable degree of certainty.

Gaming however does not prevail in the overall download space as it does in consumer spending. It was noted by the analysts that games accounted for 44% of all Google Play downloads and only 28% of all iOS downloads.

The largest markets for consumer spending in games across Apple’s and Google’s app stores are the US, China (iOS only) and Japan. The best results in terms of growth are shown by Taiwan, Turkey and South Korea (for Google Play) and China, Taiwan and Hong Kong (for iOS) as consumer spending largely increased across these markets as compared to Q4 2021. Python is a language largely used in these games (while being a relatively easy-to-pickup coding language) and Python Course are ever popular due to their use in all across the web, especially for Data Science.

Talking about the most popular games, Data.ai noted that Garena’s mobile battle royale Free Fire, the title which previously accounted for the majority of downloads in 2021, was also the most downloaded game of the quarter. Meanwhile, Genshin Impact took the No. 1 spot in consumer spending.
